Founders Day Oct 24, 1902
"Delta Zeta members are like the rainbow ... composed of separate and beautiful colors in themselves, which blend to the pure white of friendship and loyalty"
Our Story
This beautiful sentiment was shared by Founder Mabelle Minton Hagemann at the 1928 National Convention. Mabelle may not have been featured in our early history as prominently as other Founders, however her reliability of character and steadfast love for the Sorority she helped to found has shaped who Delta Zeta is today.
When Mabelle met Alfa Lloyd, Mary Collins, Anna Keen, Julia Bishop and Anne Simmons at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, they combined their different talents to bring Delta Zeta Sorority into existence at one of the oldest public universities in the country. The early years were difficult, but our Founders never wavered in their commitment to each other, each taking different roles at the appropriate time to fulfill the dream they had for Delta Zeta to grow into a national sisterhood. Mabelle herself did not return to Miami’s campus in the fall of 1903 because family obligations pressed her into service at home. However, she enjoyed a long and happy association with her sisters even as her life path took her in a different direction.
